What Happened in the Crypto Industry & NOBI During the Past Week?

Hi NOBI’s! A lot has happened in the crypto industry in the past week. It starts first from Digital Rupiah, which can be used in the metaverse. Then, another one came from Ethereum, where since The Merge, the market’s demand for the cryptocurrency’s staking options has risen exponentially! What else? We recap what’s been happening in the crypto industry during the past week!

1. Indonesia’s Upcoming CBDC Can Be Used in Metaverse, Getting Closer to Crypto Assets?

Digital Rupiah or also popularly known as the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) will not only be used as a means of payment, but can also function to buy goods in the metaverse. “Later, digital rupiah will be able to buy shoes, houses, cars, even goods in the metaverse,” said Perry in the “BIRAMA Series Talkshow: Walking the Path to Digital Rupiah” on Monday (5/12/2022).

That way, Digital Rupiah will later function as legal tender compared to paper money, which currently cannot be used in the digital world like the metaverse. Apart from being a legal means of payment for buying goods, Perry revealed that Digital Rupiah also has another function, namely as a unit of account.

2. These 3 Luxury Brands Are Officially Entering the Metaverse and NFT Sector

The NFT industry and the metaverse are trying to boost adoption rates. In connection with this mission, it seems that there has been quite a drastic development for this industry in November. Firstly, this month started with the latest information from Mike Kondoudis that luxury watch manufacturer Rolex has filed for trademark registration for the NFT, the NFT market and the crypto exchange.

Not long after that, Reebok finally officially joined forces with Nike and Adidas to get involved in the metaverse sector. The brand filed a trademark application with the USPTO to trademark its name on virtual footwear, headware and sports equipment.

Meanwhile, on the last day of November, Mike brought a super interesting update for car lovers. He said, “BMW is coming to the metaverse!” Regarding this move, BMW has filed a trademark for its logo for virtual vehicles, a retail store for virtual vehicles, and a number of related services.

3. Demand for Liquid Ethereum Staking Options Continues to Grow Post-Merge

A recent result of blockchain data analytics conducted by Nansen highlights that the amount of Ether staking has steadily increased across various staking solutions in the months following Ethereum’s transition to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus.

The highly anticipated The Merge agenda has been a boon for decentralized finance (DeFi) in general. And staking solutions have also been in high demand since Ethereum’s transition to PoS. Nansen’s report highlights The Merge’s impact in introducing staked ETH as a yield native crypto instrument which has quickly outpaced the achievements of other collateralized yield-bearing services.

4. La Liga Will Certify Goal Scoring Balls Using Blockchain Tech

Spain’s leading football league, La Liga has announced it will be one of the first organizations to certify balls used for scoring goals using blockchain technology. The institution has collaborated with Gol-Ball, a third-party company to implement the system.

The system, which is scheduled to be used after the Qatar World Cup, serves to track each ball used in each match and to isolate and identify which balls have scored goals. In fact, this innovation is something that has never been done before. Each ball used will be mixed with other balls, so it is not known which ball has scored a goal.

5. Thanks to Blockchain, Now Telegram Users Don’t Need a Phone Number to Create Accounts

Telegram has just released an application update version 9.2. This update comes with a series of new features, including a feature that allows users to create Telegram accounts without a phone number. Actually, Telegram still requires users to enter a telephone number during the registration process. However, the number listed is no longer the same phone number as the SIM card used.

Instead, users can use blockchain-based anonymous numbers that can be obtained through the Fragment platform. The Fragment site itself can be accessed free of charge. However, to get an anonymous SIM card number, users must take part in an auction at various prices, according to the uniqueness of the anonymous number offered.

That wraps up for Crypto This Week. We’ll see you at the next one!
